Polish Dinner
tonight I made cabbage rolls and pierogi, (served with sour cream, of course) and while I have made pierogi from scratch before, tonight i just used the frozen kind.
The recipe for the cabbage rolls can be found here
Overall it turned out pretty well, but I had a few problems with the recipe,
for one, I didn’t know whether the rice was supposed to be cooked or uncooked, I figured uncooked because of the 1/2c water the recipe calls for, but instead I used boiled rice and left the water out—a wise decision I felt.
Speaking of water, I also left it out of the sauce, using just the pureed tomatoes, and never draining the can. This just comes down to a question of how thin you want your sauce to be, and honestly, I could have thinned it out a little, but it really wasnt a big concern of mine.
The major change I made to the recipe was I used turkey instead of ground beef—much healthier. While this may have made me err a little on the bland side, its easily fixed with salt, pepper, and more sauce
