Nutella Cupcakes
So I found this recipe on FEISTYCOOK and it looked deliciously simple, and since they’re “self frosting” you get to skip the worst part about making cupcakes. Plus, I’ve never made a baking post on this site and it seemed a good time to start.
The cupcakes turned out reasonably well, and the marbling looks really cool, but I was hoping that the nutella would add a level...

Pineapple Glazed Chicken
This is my welcome back from the weekend, and happy soon to be march.
With regards to the latter, my new bon appetit came and I thought the recipes this month looked much more appealing than the february issue. The first thing I made out of it was Pineapple Glazed Chicken with Jalepeno Salsa.
This recipe was great because it was really fast and easy—less than 25 minutes total. Whats...

Cakes to Dream on →
Meet Colette Peters, the woman* arguably responsible for President Clinton’s arterial troubles yesterday.
She was making fondant cakes way before it became the basis for most TLC programming, and since the library is closed due to snow, I am sitting at home looking at cake

Caponata
I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, and am just now finding the time
(aka procrastinating thesis work)
Earlier this week I made the Caponata found here
The most fun part by far was frying the eggplant, it reminded me of the food we would get at le marais in paris. I didn’t add any basil because its expensive and I didn’t have any, but the red wine vinegar was a great...

Polish Dinner
tonight I made cabbage rolls and pierogi, (served with sour cream, of course) and while I have made pierogi from scratch before, tonight i just used the frozen kind.
The recipe for the cabbage rolls can be found here
Overall it turned out pretty well, but I had a few problems with the recipe,
for one, I didn’t know whether the rice was supposed to be cooked or uncooked, I figured...

Nueva Salsa →
this has always been one of my favorite cookbooks. I love the color and presentation, and it presents a really interesting take on what should be a meal staple
ps little known trick -using book previews on amazon or google books to get recipes
iNudge electronic music →
I found this website on stumbleupon and its pretty cool, made me feel like brian eno
The “songs” I made were done using commonly found patterns in Conway’s Game of Life and picking a random tempo (60-180) from random.org

sweet potato enchiladas
tonight, I made sweet potato enchiladas with a recipe i got here, at budgetbytes
of course, I had to put my own spin on it.
Instead of flour tortillas i used corn, which allow for more, smaller enchiladas, have a much grittier texture, and in my mind, a much better flavor. This substitution also allowed me to leave the corn out of the salad (as well as the cilantro, which Genna doesn’t...

A New Direction
while I haven’t been in france for some time, this blog has been effectively dead.
however, tonight I am giving it new life. Effective with this post I am taking it in the eponymous new direction. One of the things about me is I love to cook, and so I am using tumblr as a means to share that with the world making daninfrance my new food blog.
Up next, enchiladas

Today we had our last “emory sponsored” excursion. For this one we got frappes at the maison du chocolate,
afterwards I had some extra time and went to the Montparnasse Cemetary which is only two blocks from me and I’ve wanted to explore it for the past 5 weeks

Reims and Versailles
This week our program took its last to daytrips
one to Reims on Tuesday and one to Versailles yesterday
Reims is in the champagne region and was basically an excuse to get drunk on emorys dime, not only that, but we also had a delicious lunch where i ate enough foie gras to explode
Versailles was as decadent as I dreamed it would be, and because of our tour, we got to go in the chapel which is...

It was a fantastic time, we got in, promptly got lost and sketched out by a fight on the national rail
The first night we got fish and chips (by the way salt and vinegar are the two best things ever invented) and went to the pub under our hostel

For lunch we had a huge four-plate meal staring with a tomato-basil mousse with scallions, followed by smoke salmon on polenta with a green salad and a wasabi cream, served with a Reisling. The main dish was roasted chicken with vegetables served with some red wine,...

Yesterday we went to the arc de triomphe, it was pretty cool, but hard to get a good picture of because of all the stuff on champs elysees

So I would love to write a post detailing all the cool things i did in budapest, but not speaking a word of magyar, i dont really know what most of this stuff is, so please forgive the bad captions and overly vague term “sightseeing”

l'Opera
We saw a Proust Ballet at l’Opera Garnier. I was exhausted during the first act, but after a caffeine boost at intermission I was able to really enjoy act II. Here are the pictures of the building:
This is the Ceiling, it was really hard for me to get a good picture of it, they either come out dark or blurry, but it illustates some of the most famous operas, that blue splotch is the...
Musee D'Orsay
The musee d’orsay is simply amazing, not only in the art it contains, but also in the building as a whole. I loved going to the top floor and loking through the clocks all the wya to sacre coeur, but alas, i couldn’t capture a good picture of it.
I tried to look at the paintings with the “gaze of the painter” that Dali talks about in his writings and as such only really...
Notre Dame and Avi's adventures in the Seine
We went to Notre Dame yesterday for the Air France memorial service. I got to go inside before it closed though, its a very strange place because such a religious place is such a spectacle, in a very ‘unholy’ way thats why i thought this sign was so funny
On a lighter note my friend Avi lost his wallet in the river, and had to dive after it. Here he is afterwards

Le Bateau Mouche
We took a ride down the Seine in one of those big tourist boats called a bateau mouche. It only goes about 15 mph but everytime we went under a bridge all the schoolchildren on board would yell WOAHHHHHHH like it was a rollercoaster. It was a fun time though; and you get to see all the landmarks on the waterfront, here are the ones i got decent pictures of
